The whole point of puberty is for you to change from being a child and start becoming an adult. You may start to think about new and unfamiliar things such as college, careers, and relationships. For example, you might want to be more independent and at the same time, might also look for support from your parents. As a result you may sometimes feel confused.

You may start to talk to your friends about more things. Your peer group and you are likely to be influenced by what you see around you in social media. You may start to notice what your friends are doing and may feel pressured to do the same.

This might sometimes feel strange as you might start change your likes and dislikes. It’s also one of the ways in which you struggle to fit in with your peers. These events can lead to a gap between what is perceived as appropriate by your parents and your friends. It can sometimes lead to arguments at home:

Mood swings are a normal part of puberty. For example, sometimes your mood will swing between feeling confident and happy to feeling irritated and sad in a short space of time. This is because of all those hormones in your body and other changes taking place during puberty:

Everyone goes through puberty at different times, so their bodies are changes in different ways, the way you grow maybe different from the way your friends grow. This can make you conscious about the way you’re growing up and your body. These experiences are more pronounced for girls because they develop faster and earlier than boys. Also the changes in their bodies such as development of breasts and widening of hips are more noticeable. This may make them feel more conscious about their bodies.

Puberty is also the time you develop sexual maturity. With the onset of puberty, it is normal for a boy or a girl to be attracted to other people and want be more than ‘just friends. These feelings are normal and there is nothing to feel guilty about. You may have many questions about these feelings and it is a good idea to speak to a trusted adult.
